A Liberal strategist thinks Julie Bishop can still be trusted despite her role in toppling Tony Abbott.

It is being alleged that Ms Bishop did not tell Mr Abbott of Malcolm Turnbull’s challenge despite knowing about it a few days earlier.

But former Liberal adviser Toby Ralph said her colleagues will see the bigger picture.

‘She did the right thing by the country,’ Mr Ralph said on Wednesday.

Mr Ralph said the decision to change leaders gives the Liberal Party a ‘far better’ chance of winning the next election.

‘Malcolm Turnbull is more popular with Labor voters than Bill Shorten is,’ Mr Ralph said.

Neil Mitchell thinks Julie Bishop is now ‘damaged goods’.

Neil said Ms Bishop was a loyal deputy to the last three Liberal Party leaders – but she has managed to survive each time they got rolled.
