‘Jump on the bandwagon’: Myer called out for ‘commercialising’ Ramadan

Tom Elliott

Myer has been called out for “commercialising” Ramadan, after 3AW Mornings was sent a recent picture of a sign at a store, promoting the Islamic religious period.

Director of the Forum on Australia’s Islamic Relations, Kuranda Seyit, doesn’t see the signage as a negative, but doesn’t want religious periods commercialised like this recent example.

“I think it’s sort of become a bit of a policy now with a lot of these big companies who want to just jump on the bandwagon,” Mr Seyit said on 3AW Mornings.

“We’ve seen Christmas being commercialised for generations now, and Easter is going the same way,” the 3AW Mornings host said.
