Kane Cornes says Carlton’s focus on youth could ‘do more harm than good’

Sportsday

Kane Cornes has taken aim at the Blues after their poor showing against Port Adelaide.

The former Power star told 3AW Football Carlton’s lack of effort on the night was ‘inexcusable’.

He said Brendon Bolton’s focus on playing youth could backfire.

‘You can’t continue to put young guys to the sword,’ Cornes said on Saturday night.

‘I’ve played in sides that do that, and it does more harm than good.

‘It’s all well and good to give them games, but you’ve got to teach them the right way.’

Cornes said the Blues shouldn’t be scheduled on Friday nights for a while.

‘It’s been embarrassing what Carlton have produced on Friday nights,’ he said.

‘They also get the season opener. I can’t understand how that happens.’
