Kangaroo attacks and kills Monty the Pomeranian in his Keilor backyard

Owners of Monty the pomeranian have been left devastated after their beloved dog was killed by a kangaroo.

The rogue kangaroo entered the Keilor backyard on the weekend, wreaking havoc for more than three hours. 

In an attempt to save Monty, owner Justin Lewis was attacked and injured, he spoke with Neil Mitchell.

‘It saw me around the corner, got it’s claws up, tried to pull me in, I grabbed what ever I found closest.’

Justin picked up a broom stick to try and fight off the kangaroo, but the roo snapped it in half. 

The animal eventually jumped over the back fence and it’s believed to have fled into nearby bushland.

‘To hear your pet crying and screaming for life, you could see the claws going into it… It’s not something you want to witness.’

Justin says his family are now recovering from the loss of 12-year-old Monty, but Justin bares the physical scars.

‘Theres quite a few deep gashes, it got it’s claws up on my chest… a few slashes across the back.’ – Justin told 3AW Mornings.
