Kel Glare’s tells Ross and John about his 100-point plan for law and order

Compulsory GPS trackers on all cars, a new youth command and the re-introduction of one-up patrols are among some of the 100 points of a plan to tackle law and order issues across Victoria.

The plan is the brainchild of a group of former high-ranking police officers, led by former police chief Kel Glare.

He spoke to Ross and John 3AW Breakfast before presenting the plan to the state opposition this morning.

Mr Glare said it’s not a case of picking and choosing which points should be adopted. 

‘It’s a total package,’ he said. ‘In the end we think it’s all fairly important.’

Making it easier to police is a key plank for the proposed reforms.

‘It’s very difficult to dismiss police for poor performance,’ he said.

‘So if they can’t be brought up to scratch, there also needs to be some means to say ‘Well, you’re no longer suitable for this sort of occupation’.’

ROSS: A lot of these points are getting a tick from me. A lot of these will be have to be approved by the Police Association as much as command, such as more rigorous random illicit drug-testing.
