Ken Hinkley hits back at ‘disrespectful’ reports surrounding him and the Gold Coast Suns
Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley has fired back at those questioning why he still speaks with Gold Coast players.
Hinkley was called into question over the summer, with one report in a Queensland paper suggesting he ‘meddled too much’ with the club’s players and the Suns had become frustrated with their former assistant making contact.
Port Adelaide went on to sign talented forward Charlie Dixon over the off-season.
Hinkley was asked on Sports Today whether he was offended by suggestions he had ulterior motives.
‘Absolutely I was,’ the Power coach told 3AW.
‘I thought it was really disrespectful.
‘One ? that they were probably questioning my values a bit (and) what I may, or may not, have been doing.
‘And two ? the relationships I had with players.’
Hinkley said he still spoke with players he coached at Geelong and that it was offensive to suggest he needed to cut ties.
‘Some of it (criticism) was that I shouldn’t even be speaking with these people,’ he said.
‘I find that a little bit offensive.’
