One of Australia’s most powerful media barons says we should be concerned by the investigation into Bill Leak’s controversial cartoon.

Kerry Stokes told Neil Mitchell free speech was ‘fundamental’ to a democratic society.

‘Words should never be restricted,’ he said on 3AW Mornings.

Mr Stokes said it would set a dangerous precedent if the investigation went anywhere.

He said there was nothing wrong with the cartoon.

‘I thought it was an accurate portrayal of a very sad and very difficult moment in time, where we need to stand up and see what is happening in order to come up with some solutions to fix it,’ he said.
