Residents of Kyneton, in the Macedon Ranges, have been warned not to drink water straight from the tap.

Coliban Water says the tap water is not safe to drink unless it’s boiled first, with managing director of Coliban Water Damian Wells claiming a burst water main is to blame.

Ryan Khun, Owner of Kyneton’s Country Cob Bakery, spoke to Heidi Murphy on the latest update he received from Coliban Water this afternoon.

“We lost a lot of water out of the system, to the extent that we nearly ran the town dry,” Mr Wells told Jacqui Felgate and Jimmy Bartel.

The advice is likely to remain in place for several days.

A drinking water trailer will be located at the Kyneton Showgrounds on Wednesday 12 April. Kyneton residents can fill suitable contains at this location to supplement their home drinking water supply.
