Parents ‘fuming’ after under-12 basketball team used in political campaign
Parents have been left fuming after a Victorian Labor candidate has posed with their children without their approval.
Labor candidate for Yan Yean, Lauren Kathage, posed with a group of under-12s in Mernda after their game. The kids were holding signs which read “Labor will deliver $20 million for Mernda Regional Aquatic and Sports Centre”.
The photo was later posted on Ms Kathage’s Instagram, and has since been taken down.
Mill Park Rebelz club president Anthony Dionis says he received a notice from the basketball association saying photos would be taken “and it was to do with basketball”.
“We were informed there would be photos for the kids, obviously assuming it would be for basketball,” he told Neil Mitchell.
He was taken by surprise by the presence of the Labor candidate, and says the parents of the children involved are “fuming”.
“My phone has not stopped all weekend in regard to it,” he said.
