Labor MP David Feeney resigns as citizenship saga continues
Labor MP David Feeney has resigned as the citizenship debacle claims another scalp.
The MP for Batman announced his resignation at a press conference this afternoon after he failed to renounce his dual citizenship.
“I am unable to disprove that I am a dual citizen,” he said.
“This has been an incredibly difficult decision.”
At a High Court hearing last month, his lawyers admitted he still did not have the paperwork to prove he had revoked his British citizenship.
His resignation will trigger a by-election in the marginal seat.
Union boss Ged Kearney is reportedly set to be put forward as Labor’s candidate for Batman.
