A Labor MP’s letter congratulating grade 6 students on graduating high school has been labelled “disgraceful”.

Independent John Kavanagh said one of the letters was given to a grade 6 child yesterday at St. Thomas More from local member Lizzie Blandthorn.

“I believe this to be a disgraceful letter to be given to a child during an election period, clearly paid for by taxpayers as well,” Mr Kavanagh said.

In the letter Ms Blandthorn addressed the student by their first name and says they should be very proud of themselves for graduating primary school.

“Starting secondary school next year should be very exciting. You will meet different teachers, make new friends and learn so much. Good luck!”
