Labor is on track to win government in its own right, and Anthony Albanese will be sworn in as Australia’s next Prime Minister today.

The Electoral Commission will continue counting votes, with Labor confident it can win the 76 seats needed to govern in its own right, without help from the independents.

Anthony Albanese was this morning sworn in as the nation’s 31st Prime Minister today, allowing him to travel to Japan and represent Australia at the Quad Leaders’ Summit in Japan.

Penny Wong has been sworn in as Foreign Minister and will travel with Mr Albanese.

Richard Marles got the green light to become Deputy Prime Minister, while Jim Chalmers and Katy Gallagher have be sworn into key economic roles.
