Labor Party claims major election win in Liberal heartland
Labor has claimed the seat of Hawthorn.
In a major election shock, John Pesutto has been dumped from the long-time Liberal seat – a seat the party has held since 1955.
Labor candidate John Kennedy tweeted on Tuesday afternoon, saying he was “extremely humbled” to be the new member.
He wished Mr Pesutto “all the best” for the future.
It’s extremely humbling to be the new member for #Hawthorn. I want to thank all my supporters who did so much to help achieve this historic result. My promise is to work hard every day to repay the faith put in me. I wish John Pesutto all the very best for the future.
