Labor Party claims major election win in Liberal heartland

victorian election

Labor has claimed the seat of Hawthorn.

In a major election shock, John Pesutto has been dumped from the long-time Liberal seat – a seat the party has held since 1955.

Labor candidate John Kennedy tweeted on Tuesday afternoon, saying he was “extremely humbled” to be the new member.

He wished Mr Pesutto “all the best” for the future.

Mr Pesutto’s exit means former Treasurer Michael O’Brien is the hot tip to take over as Opposition Leader.
