Serves: 4
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Ingredients:
- 4 quality beef sausages (or your favourite variety!)
- 4 slices of your favourite white or wholemeal bread (or go for a crusty roll!)
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for grilling)
- 1 small onion (optional, for caramelizing)
- Your choice of condiments: Tomato sauce, mustard, BBQ sauce, or chutney
- Fresh herbs (optional, for garnish – parsley or coriander)
- A pinch of salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Preheat the Grill/BBQ:
- Heat your BBQ or grill to medium-high heat, or you can do it in a frying pan if you’re short on a BBQ setup.
- Lightly oil the grill grates to avoid the sausages sticking.
- Sausages on the Grill:
- Place the sausages on the grill and cook for about 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally to ensure they cook evenly and develop a lovely golden-brown colour on all sides.
- For an extra juicy twist, you can toss them in a bit of BBQ sauce or your favourite marinade halfway through cooking!
- Optional: Caramelized Onions:
- While the sausages are grilling, slice the onion thinly and toss it onto the grill (or in a frying pan) with a little oil, stirring often until golden and soft.
- Add a pinch of salt and pepper, and if you’re feeling fancy, drizzle a little balsamic vinegar or brown sugar for added sweetness!
- Toast the Bread:
- While the sausages and onions are sizzling, place the slices of bread (or rolls) on the grill for a minute or two on each side until they’re golden and lightly toasted.
- Assembly Time:
- Once the sausages are cooked through, place each one on a slice of toasted bread.
- Top with your choice of condiments and optional caramelized onions for added flavour.
- Serve & Enjoy:
- Garnish with a fresh sprinkle of herbs or a dash of extra BBQ sauce if you like a little kick.
- Grab that plate, serve it up, and enjoy the simple thrill of a BBQ sausage on bread, the perfect Aussie classic!
