‘Lack of knowledge’ to blame for criticism of courts
County Court Chief Judge Peter Kidd has expressed his frustration with public perception of the justice system, as well at how many cases are reported.
He joined Neil Mitchell in studio on Tuesday.
Chief Judge Kidd said research consistently showed that once a person had a judgment properly explained to them, an “overwhelming” amount agreed with the sentence imposed.
“So there does appear to be a knowledge gap and that knowledge gap is a concern to me,” he said.
Chief Judge Kidd said the “nature” of journalism, which often highlighted controversial or unusual aspects of a case, didn’t help.
