Large fire at Sims Scrap Metal, Brooklyn

Fire crews are battling a large scrap metal fire in Melbourne’s west.

It’s likely to be several hours before the fire at Sims Scrap Metal on McDonald Road is under control.

Residents in the area have been urged to shut windows, doors and turn off air conditioners due to the smoke in the air.

Suburbs affected include Brooklyn, Tottenham, Laverton North, Sunshine West, West Footscray, Braybrook, Sunshine and Maidstone.

Several roads have also been blocked, with drivers also urged to steer clear of the area if possible.
