‘It’s raining ash!’: Wind blows black mess to city as large fire takes at Coolaroo
A large fire that took hold of a recycling centre in Melbourne’s north yesterday continues to burn.
More than 80 firefighters spent the night battling the blaze, which began at the recycling plant on Maffra St, Coolaroo, about 9am yesterday.
It’s still not under control, and is expected to burn throughout the day and into the weekend.
115 homes were door-knocked in Dallas last night.
Authorities urged residents to evacuate with the suburb covered in thick black smoke.
Residents in surrounding suburbs also being urged to take care, with smoky air smelt across the city, including in the 3AW studios in Docklands.
