Latest crime stats released, reveal huge drop in home invasions

Victoria’s crime rate is down 10.9 per cent on last year.

The figure is led by a 15 per cent drop in home invasions.

There were 380,150 criminal incidents recorded by Victoria Police in the year to March 2018, down by 8.8 per cent compared to the same period last year.

However, there’s been a 13 per cent increase in sexual assaults.

Police say that’s largely due to the introduction of new offences, as well as victims feeling more confident in coming forward.
