An Australian security company has suffered a data breach “much more significant” than the Optus incident, tech guru Geoff Quattromani has told 3AW Mornings.

G4S, which helps run prisons and detention centres, has had detailed records of employees, past and present, stolen in what they’ve described as a cyber incident.

“This one is much more significant than the Optus breach, just a smaller number of people,” Quattromani said.

G4S provided 3AW Mornings with the following statement…

As previously notified, G4S Australia was the subject of a cyber incident on 5 July 2022.

The confidentiality, privacy and wellbeing of staff and those with whom we work is of critical importance, and we take this matter very seriously.

The breach was identified and relevant authorities were promptly informed.

G4S Australia has been closely monitoring the situation since the event and can confirm that some data was disclosed by an unauthorised third party.

We apologise to any individual whose data may have been disclosed and we are providing advice and support to those affected.

If an individual’s current driver licence or passport have been disclosed, G4S will reimburse the fees to replace these documents.
