Job figures show the full-time work force has collapsed.

The number of full-time positions dropped by 53,000 in September, while part-time jobs rose by 43,200.

But Commsec economist Savanth Sebastian told Neil Mitchell other economic indicators show no cause for concern.

‘Job vacancies in the last couple of week have hit the highest levels in three years,’ he said on Friday.

Mr Sebastian said economic activity across the country isn’t slowing down, which suggests those jobs will be filled soon.

He said the changing face of the workforce is one of the reasons behind the shift away from full-time positions.

‘Older Australians are looking for a much more flexible opportunity to work.’
