Victoria has been rocked by an earthquake.

Geoscience Australia reports the epicentre was at Mansfield, north east of Melbourne, at a depth of 10 kilometres, at 9.15am on Wednesday.

It was a magnitude 6.0 tremor.

Emergency Victoria has warned there may yet be aftershocks.

There’s widespread damage on Chapel Street, where awnings have crumbled and bricks have been tossed across tram tracks.

3AW listeners have reported feeling varying tremors all across Victoria and even in Tasmania and NSW.

Tony Jones spoke with Matt (Goughs Bay) and Dick (Jamieson) who live near the epicentre.

Dick said it was an extraordinary experience.

“I’ve got a few ornamental elephants on a shelf and got a bit of a shock when I saw them start walking around by themselves,” he said.

The 3AW building, some seven floors in the air, began shaking while Tony Jones was broadcasting live on air.
