Angry child abuse victims and their supporters have reacted with loud groans in court after learning Adelaide Catholic Archbishop Philip Wilson will be assessed for home detention, despite being jailed for six months.

Wilson has been convicted of concealing the sexual abuse of two altar boys in the church four decades ago.

The 67-year-old remains on bail until a decision is made in six weeks.

Peter Gogarty was a victim of abuse as a teenager and told 3AW Drive he was “very disappointed” to hear Wilson may not serve a day in jail.

He said it was “laughable” the Catholic Church had not removed Wilson as Archbishop of Adelaide.
