A volunteer firefighter hopes his decision to register the business name “Fire Rescue Victoria” will slow down the government’s reform of the state’s fire services.

David Gibbs registered the name on Friday before the government.

It could stop the government from using the name.

Neil Mitchell asked him why he did it.

“Probably trying to slow the process down,” Mr Gibbs said.

“I think the government moving with undue haste in this whole process.

“I don’t think the concept practically is going to provide any better fire coverage for the community of Victoria, at all, it’s more likely to create more bureaucracy and hinder things in the process.

“This may slow it down a little bit and make time for some more informed decisions.”
