Legal action launched against cancer conwoman Belle Gibson

Cancer conwoman Belle Gibson faces a $1 million fine after legal action was launched against her in a Federal Court on Friday.

The disgraced wellness blogger allegedly deceived her followers, her friends and family about having terminal brain cancer and curing her illness with healthy eating and natural therapies.

Consumer Affairs Victoria is now chasing Gibson, launching legal action against her and her company, accused of peddling false claims and defrauding charities.

Gibson has escaped the possibility of jail time as it is not regarded by police as a criminal offence.

The matter goes to court May 24.
