Leigh Matthews coming around to send-off rule
Leigh Matthews is coming around to the idea of a send-off rule.
Matthews told Sports Today he was against the idea last weekend, but since Steven May’s hit on Stefan Martin, he’s now ‘on the fence’.
Martin sat out the remainder of the match with concussion.
‘It’s not necessary for the disciplinary nature of the game, this is a game fairness issue,’ Matthews said.
Matthews said it would only rarely be utilised.
‘It’s like the drawn Grand Final – it’s not going to happen often, but you have to be prepared, just in case,’ he said.
Matthews said a fourth umpire could look at a replay and confirm or overturn the decision, perhaps at the end of the quarter.
