Leigh Matthews fires back at Scoop over coaching speculation

‘Scoop’ McClure was given a big compliment on Sports Today this evening when Leigh Matthews admitted to tuning in every night just to hear what stories ‘Scoop’ has.

When Matthews turned his radio on earlier this week, he wasn’t in agreement with one of Scoop’s stories.

Scoop revealed that a Victorian club had been showing interest in some Brisbane players, however this week those players have gone cold on a potential move. When asked if any conclusion could be drawn from it, Scoop said something could have changed.

‘Maybe there are players at Brisbane Lions who believe that there will be a different coach there next year,’ he said.

Matthews believes it was a far stretch and took him to task about the story by bringing in maths to support the argument.

‘Normally two and two makes four, right? That is two and two making about 178!’ Matthews said.

Brisbane face Essendon this weekend in a bottom two clash and coach Justin Leppitsch will be under more pressure should they lose.

There has been a board meeting scheduled for next week, however it is nothing out of the ordinary.

‘It’s just a monthly board meeting,’ Matthews said.

Recent reports that midfielder Daniel Rich is on $800,000 a season were also dismissed by the Brisbane Vice-President.

‘That’s way, way, way, a mile over!’
