Leigh Matthews, Jimmy Bartel, and Caroline Wilson discuss Carlton’s future

Sportsday

Carlton’s future is on the agenda after a poor performance on Friday night.

The Blues kicked just two goals in the first three quarters in a 15-goal loss to Port Adelaide to open Anzac Round.

Leigh Matthews said there’s no guarantee that the young side will fulfil its potential.

‘They didn’t look to me like a side that’s got this outstanding youth that is automatically going to be better in a few years’ time,’ Leigh said.

Former Geelong star Jimmy Bartel said the Blues’ plan is to start by solidifying the team’s key position players.

‘You can see what SOS (list manager Stephen Silvagni) is trying to build,’ Bartel said.

‘Carlton were just too young and inexperienced.’
