Leigh Matthews says this year’s Anzac Day contest was everything footy fans could have hoped for, with Collingwood and Essendon battling out a tight match in front of 85,000 fans at a sunbathed MCG.

The AFL great joined Neil Mitchell in expressing his disapproval of the pre-game entertainment.

“It just seemed so inappropriate,” Leigh Matthews said.

“It was the wrong place, wrong time, to have a flamboyantly dressed rock band belting out two or three tunes.”
