Liberal frontbencher Greg Hunt says Australia needs to be ‘generous’ when it comes to Syrian refugees and expects the government to have an official policy on the issue by tomorrow.

Mr Hunt, the federal environment minister, told Tom Elliott the relevant departments were currently discussing how best to tackle to the problem.

‘The final decision will be made within the next 24 hours,’ Mr Hunt said on 3AW Drive.
