Liberal MP calls for fixed four year terms for Federal politicians

Jacqui Felgate

NSW Liberal MP David Coleman has argued today for the introduction of fixed four year terms for federal politicians, rather than three.

Tom Elliott spoke with Professor George Williams, Dean of Law at the University of New South Wales.

Williams says it’s long overdue.

‘The reason it’s a good idea is because what we finding at the Federal level is the term is not three years. It’s often a fair bit shorter.’

‘We’re lurching too quickly from election to election without the politicians knuckling down and having the time and space to address some of the big issues and problems that are facing the country.’ – Professor Williams told 3AW Drive.
