Liberal strategist tells Neil Mitchell to expect an early election

A long-time Liberal Party strategist has tipped July 2 for the Federal election.

Toby Ralph has told Neil Mitchell Malcolm Turnbull should strike early before his popularity ‘slides south’ any further.

‘Go now, go early, go fast, go hard,’ Mr Ralph said.

Mr Ralph said Mr Turnbull is itching to claim his own mandate since claiming the leadership off Tony Abbott.

‘He’s had to appease the right of his party and not do too much,’ Mr Ralph said.

He said he expects a double dissolution election to ‘clean up’ the Senate, which has been stifled this term by a mixture of minor party crossbenchers.
