Former Foreign Minister and NSW Premier Bob Carr made headlines this week after the Brisbane Writer’s Festival banned him, along with Germaine Greer, from speaking at the festival.

“Our books are too controversial,” he told Neil Mitchell.

“They’ve reached the view that the tender sensibilities of the people in Brisbane have to be protected from the arguments that my book bristles with.”

His book, Run for Your Life, details Carr’s personal and political life in the public sphere since the late 60s.

He and Neil discussed his history as a journalist, his admiration for Paul Keating, meeting a young Malcolm Turnbull, opening the safe injecting facility in Kings Cross, how former PM Julia Gillard was treated by her male colleagues and compares Bill Shorten to Gough Whitlam – among other topics.
