Racing driver Steve Pizzati says the technology that saved Fernando Alonso will be available in all cars soon.

Alonso miraculously walked away from a horror smash at the Grand Prix, which saw his car completely dismantled.

Mr Pizzati told Tom Elliott it was basically due to a carbon fibre tub protecting the driver.

‘It’s about 4-5 times stronger than steel, but less than a quarter of the weight,’ he said.

Currently, it’s not a material that’s fit for consumer cars.

It’s expensive, and extremely difficult to repair.

But Mr Pizzati said it will find its way into everyday vehicles ‘in the not-too-distant future’.
