Tarzino ($3) has won the AAMI Victoria Derby worth $1.5 million.
The pre-race favourite, trained by Mick Price, was simply too classy for the field of three-year-olds, storming clear on the Flemington straight to hold off Etymology and Western Australian import Kia Ora Koutou.
Craig Newitt was the winning jockey.
EARLIER: Uncomfortable conditions appear to have turned a few racegoers away from Derby Day.
The event, which oftens attracts more than 100,000 people, played host to slightly smaller crowd than usual due to the rain and humidity in the air.
But it didn’t stop 85,943 people from having a blast at Flemington.
3AW will be on course broadcasting all the action of the Melbourne Cup carnival live this week.
