Lloyd and Ball back Brent Harvey to go on in 2017

Sportsday

North Melbourne will have some tough decisions to make as it enters the post-season trade period.

But according to 3AW Football’s expert panel, Brent Harvey won’t be one of them.

The 38-year-old veteran, fresh from his 430th game, was again one of North’s best players in a narrow loss to flag favourites Sydney.

Matthew Lloyd said the only way North would get rid of Boomer is if they wanted a blanket cleanout of all players over a certain age.

‘In football terms, he’s one of the first ones they have to sign up for next year,’ Lloyd said.

‘There’s plenty of young players getting a game, so he’s not holding anyone back.’

Lloyd said Drew Petrie, Jarrad Waite, and Michael Firrito are all ahead of Harvey on the chopping block.

‘There’s probably four or five that would go before Boomer, it’s just how many they want to tip out,’ he said.

Luke Ball said Harvey is playing good enough football to warrant another season.

‘If you’d watched the game today without any knowledge, and heard No.29 is out of contract, you’d say ‘give him a three-year deal’,’ Ball said.
