Locals are furious a dangerous level crossing where a truck collided with a train near Colac is yet to receive an upgrade.

Dairy farmer Helen Benallack works adjacent to where the horrific crash occurred and says it’s ‘suicide’ to use the crossing.

The level crossing has been fast-tracked to be removed by the Andrews Government.

‘There’s a lot of anger, a lot of upset people,’ she said.

‘It’s suicide trying to cross that crossing. You never know when a train is coming.’

Corangamite MP Sarah Henderson said the crash was a frightening and it was lucky there was no loss of life.

She called for the Andrews Government to urgently fast-track the upgrade.

Transport Minister Jacinta Allan said the Government remains committed to installing signals at the level crossing.

‘If we hadn’t fast-tracked this funding, this crossing and 17 others would be even further away from being removed,’ she said.

V-Line CEO Gary Liddle told Neil Mitchell they were hopeful the crossing would be upgraded by the end of the year.
