Long-serving Labor MP announces his political retirement

Long-serving Labor MP John Eren won’t be contesting the next election.

The former cabinet minister, who has been in parliament for almost 20 years, has announced his retirement from politics.

The news comes with Labor’s pre-selection deadline fast-approaching.

Mr Eren was first elected in the seat of Lara in 2002.

He is the fifth Labor member to announce their resignation in recent days.
