Long-standing home buyer’s grant faces the axe
Victoria’s first home owner’s grant could soon be scrapped amid concern it’s not improving housing affordability and is forcing people to the city fringes.
CEO of Infrastructure Victoria, Dr Jonathan Spear, says the grant is “really not helping in increasing affordability of homes”.
“It’s costing the taxpayer $150 million to $200 million a year to do this but it’s not actually making homes any cheaper,” he told Ross and Russel.
