Essendon club doctor Bruce Reid has taken indefinite leave after being diagnosed with cancer.

Reid has undergone surgery for mesothelioma, a form of cancer affecting mesothelial cells in internal organs.

The long-term Bombers doctor is currently recovering in hospital.

“Reidy’s health and wellbeing are our number one priority during this difficult time,” Essendon CEO Xavier Campbell said in a club statement.
