Lord mayor addresses $150k trip, data centres, and more

Lord mayor Nick Reece has denied reports a global trip cost Melbourne ratepayers over $150,000.

He’s told Tom Elliott the trip had generated “huge” economic benefits for Melbourne.

“Well in excess of $200 million. Everything works better in person … you cannot seize global opportunities from behind a desk at town hall,” he said on 3AW Mornings.

He’s also explained a photo of him at Tiananmen Square was a deliberate recreation of former Premier Daniel Andrews.
