Lord Mayor defends City of Melbourne’s rates rise
Lord Mayor Sally Capp has defended the City of Melbourne’s decision to raise council rates, despite the economic hammering many CBD businesses have copped due to COVID-19 lockdowns.
The City of Melbourne has opted to pass on the 1.75 per cent rates rise in its high-spending draft budget for 2022-23.
“We want to make sure that we can deliver the services that expected of us,” the Lord Mayor told Neil Mitchell on Wednesday.
“So we are making sure we have the right resources in place.”
She said different payment options would be available for those struggling financially.
