Lord Mayor shares latest update on the battle over bike lanes in the CBD

Tom Elliott

The battle over bike lanes in Melbourne’s CBD is anything but over.

It was decided the installation of new lanes in Melbourne’s Hoddle Grid would be put on hold for a year at a lengthy five-hour meeting at Town Hall on Tuesday night.

3AW Mornings understands more than 1000 submissions were made, almost all of which were pro-bike lanes.

But Lord Mayor Sally Capp said that was only part of the process.

“It’s about getting the balance right,” she said.

“We’ve got people who want to pull bike lanes up all together, and people who want them on every street.”

The Lord Mayor also set the record straight over a “skewed” version of events about her upcoming trip to Singapore.

“I think it’s really good value for money,” she said.
