Lost hikers found in late night Lerderderg State Park rescue operation
Five hikers have been rescued after becoming lost in the Lerderderg State Park, west of Melbourne, last night.
The group set off from Mackenzies Flat and attempted to walk the Spur Track where they became lost in steep, dense bush as heavy rain fell.
They called triple-0 at 7pm, before losing phone contact.
SES crews from Bacchus Marsh headed into the area, which is notorious for hikers becoming lost, in search of the group.
The bushwalkers were safely rescued at about 12.45am.
The SES says the search highlights the potential dangers of hiking in the Lerderderg State Park. They’re urging bushwalkers to ensure they’re well-prepared before setting out.
