Louise tells Tom Elliott about the harsh realities for those facing homelessness

Jacqui Felgate

A woman facing homelessness has opened up about the harsh realities for many people like her across Melbourne.

It follows the assembly of a new taskforce and summit to deal with the current crisis.

Louise, aged in her 50s, told Tom Elliott she was struggling to find employment after being retrenched and simply couldn’t survive and pay rent on government benefits.

‘It is really tough,’ she said on 3AW Drive.

‘I don’t think people realise just how tough it is.’

Louise said she was ‘lucky enough’ to be sleeping on the couch at a friend’s.

‘I don’t want to be in somebody else’s house, Tom,’ she said.
