Lucky escape but traffic chaos in Western Ring Road smash

9.15AM Update: All Greensborough-bound lanes are expected to be closed until about 10am, following which all Altona-bound lanes are expected to be closed for a short time as crews clean-up the mess left by this morning’s smash.

STORY

A truck has spectacularly mounted a car in one of two crashes that have caused traffic chaos on the Western Ring Road this morning.

The incident involving the truck (pictured above) happened about 4.20am near Pascoe Vale Road.

No one was seriously injured in the smash but two lanes are closed in both directions.

Traffic was banked up back to Bulla Rd, city-bound.

Ross and John listener Scott said motorists are taking their lives into their own hands by attempting to turn around head back up the on-ramp.

Meanwhile, there was another crash on the Western Ring Road when five vehicles involved on the Greenborough-bound on ramp form the Tullamarine Freeway.

Chris Miller from VicRoads says three lanes are open in both directions.

It comes after an 11-vehicle smash on Sydney Road yesterday, which left one person in a critical condition and caused traffic chaos during the evening peak.
