Lucky punter wins $70 million Powerball jackpot

One lucky punter has snapped up a $70 million Powerball jackpot – the biggest win on a single ticket in the competition’s history.

The winner, who is yet to be officially notified, is based in Queensland.

Belinda McDougall, from Tatts Lotteries, told Tony Jones that she often gets to make the phone call notifying winners of their new found wealth and often have no idea they’ve won.

‘You hear the change in their voice as soon as you identify where you’re from,’ she told Tony Jones. ‘You hear the shortness in the breath and their excitement build.’

‘I’ve made hundreds of these phonecalls.’
