Lynch to captain in 2017?

Already 2017 is set to be an incredibly important season for the Gold Coast Suns.

The franchise team is yet to play in a finals series and this year injuries have all but ruined the season.

On top of that, there are serious question marks over Jaegar O’meara and Dion Prestia’s future at the club, as they both are rumoured to look elsewhere at the end of the season.

A major positive this season has been Tom Lynch. Currently third in the Coleman Medal race, Lynch has committed to the club for a further two years and isn’t looking to go anywhere else.

‘I see myself playing footy at the Gold Coast Suns for the rest of my career,’ he told Sports Today.

‘Obviously things can change… In today’s footy you can’t be 100% sure of what’s going to happen, but I’m really enjoying myself at the Gold Coast Suns.’

Inaugural captain gary Ablett continues to be plagued by injury and it has been suggested he hands the captaincy role down to another leader at the club.

Lynch fits the bill perfectly.

‘If the club thinks it’s best if I captain, I’d be happy to captain,’ he said.

AFL Legend Leigh Matthews endorses Lynch as a person and as a footballer.

‘He seems a terrific type of young bloke. He’s humble.’

‘He’s a tall (player) who can keep his height.’
