Magpie attack leaves man needing miracle surgery

Most Victorians would have their own story of getting ‘swooped’ by a magpie but not many would have a story like Sunbury father Christian Nyssen’s.

Christian was riding his bike with his family when a magpie swooped him and pecked part of his eye out. This left Christian needing emergency surgery to replace his retina.

Specialist eye surgeon at the Epworth Hospital Dr Elvis Ojaimi performed the miracle surgery and told Mark Allen and Jimmy Bartel, filling in on 3AW Breakfast, that this isn’t the first eye surgery he has performed due to a magpie attack.
