Free street parking in the CBD on Sundays is set to become a thing of the past.

The City of Melbourne will ditch free Sunday parking and begin operating parking metres until 10pm instead of 8.30pm under a new CBD parking plan.

CEO of the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Paul Guerra, says the changes don’t make sense.

Under the new parking plan, free 15-minute parking would be available in all council spots, and discounted rates ($4 an hour rather than $7) will apply on weekend and after 7pm on weekdays.

City councillors will vote on whether to approve the plan at a meeting on May 16.
