A pedestrian has been hit by a tram on Elizabeth Street near Queen Victoria Market on Monday afternoon.

The Department of Transport said the man was conscious and taken to hospital in critical condition, but delays to several tram networks were expected.

Caller Georgie provided 3AW with an eyewitness account of what happened.

“I could see two fire trucks,” she told Heidi Murphy.

“It looked like a lot of people looked like they were getting interviewed at the tram stop.”

Police later said they are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
